Lexington may privatize some snow removal
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – An Urban County Council committee on Tuesday tentatively approved a snow removal plan that would use private contractors to plow major streets and roads to supplement the city’s efforts. The use of private snow removal contractors would free up city snow plows, which would result in more streets being cleared and in less time, according to officials.
This would not be a new practice for the city, which has used private contractors in the past to augment the city’s snow removal efforts, including last winter when Lexington was hit with two major snowstorms in less than a month late in the season. It is unclear where the money would come from to pay the private contractors. The proposed plan still has to go before the full Urban County Council.
