Lexington man drowns in Garrard County
PAINT LICK, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Garrard Co. Coroner says that a Lexington man has died after drowning in Paint Lick Wednesday evening.
According to the corner, 42-year-old Charles Martin was swimming with friends when he began screaming for help. A woman went out to the water to get him to shore. Two men who were also there were unable to swim, and could not assist her.
When they got to the shore, no one in the group knew CPR, and they were in an area without cell phone signal. The group drove Martin to an area with signal, and called for EMS. When medical personnel arrived, CPR was administered, but the coroner says it was too late. Martin was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m.
The coroner says they are waiting on toxicology results from an examination in Frankfort. The coroner says the group was drinking by the water, and that there was alcohol in the vehicle they were driving.
