Lexington man accused of shooting at Nicholasville officer appears in court
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Lexington man charged with attempted murder of a police officer was in court Monday for a preliminary hearing following a shooting incident earlier this month.
According to Nicholasville Police, it happened when an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Lexington Road. The driver, identified as Jonathan D. Rodriguez Lopez, initially pulled over but then sped away, made a U-turn, and allegedly fired a handgun at the pursuing officer.
Police say a bullet struck the cruiser’s front tire. The officer was not injured.
Rodriguez Lopez was later located and arrested by Lexington Police with the help of Flock camera technology, which captured his vehicle.
He is charged with attempted murder of a peace officer and fleeing or evading police. The case remains under investigation.
