Lexington man accused of raping & impregnating mentally disabled woman
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — 59-year-old James Weathers of Lexington has been arrested and is being accused of raping mentally disabled woman, police say.
The victim became pregnant after being raped last February, officials say, and DNA testing confirmed that Weathers is the father.
According to the Lexington Herald, Weathers requested a public defender when he appeared in court on Wednesday afternoon, saying he was not employed. He also reportedly asked for an unsecured bond, but Fayette District Judge Julie Goodman cited Weather’s criminal record as reason enough to deny the request.
The Herald reported that Weathers has a record of domestic violence charges, and court records show he had failed to appear in court, and failed to return stolen property.
According to officials, the woman had an intellectual disability, and she was not capable of giving consent.
Weathers is being charged with rape and knowingly abusing a vulnerable adult.
