Lexington makes move to help citizens connect to more services
Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government says it is using a private social network to help neighborhoods connect more with the city.
The city says it has started using Nextdoor to improve city and county-wide communications by connecting with residents on a hyper-local level.
Lexington joins the Lexington Police Department and Lexington Emergency Management, who have been using Nextdoor for a year now.
More than 200 neighborhoods in Lexington are connected and communicating on the social network.
Nextdoor allows residents to create private neighborhood websites to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets.
It is free for residents and public agencies.
According to the city, each Lexington neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood.
Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website.
The city cannot access residents’ websites and information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by Google or other search engines.
Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can visit nextdoor.com and enter their address.
