Lexington mail carrier Kevin Stover honored with USPS Hero Award for helping fallen woman
LEXINGTON, KY. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Lexington letter carrier is being recognized for going above and beyond to help a customer in need.
The United States Postal Service has awarded carrier technician Kevin Stover the Postmaster General Hero Award after he assisted a senior citizen who had fallen inside her home.
Officials say while delivering mail on a route in north Lexington, Stover noticed the customer’s front door slightly open and heard someone calling for help. When he looked inside, he saw the woman lying on the floor.
The woman told Stover she had fallen in her bedroom and was unable to get up or reach her phone. She was able to make her way to the door after hearing Stover arrive.
Stover immediately called emergency services and stayed with the woman until help arrived.
His supervisor, Liberty Road station manager Alyson Hubbard, said the recognition reflects the kind of person Stover is. She described him as reliable and well-liked by customers, noting he is always willing to help both inside and outside the post office.
The Postmaster General Heroes’ Program, created in 2003, recognizes postal employees who take extraordinary action to assist others.
