Lexington library’s Central Gallery hosting Robert Love exhibition

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington’s Central Library will host an exhibit of the works of artist Robert Love through Wednesday, June 23.

Love’s exhibit features repurposed and recycled materials crafted into familiar subject matter to be enjoyed by all ages.

With two rotating gallery displays, at Central Library Gallery and the Eastside Library Gallery, the Library is one of the most frequented artistic venues in Lexington.

Love’s drive to create art from found materials led him to a mosaic-like technique he calls “recycled brush strokes.”

As an art teacher during the past 30 years, he was constantly searching for found or cheap materials to create projects with his students. He discovered an extensive palette of colors to work with in aluminum cans, which are used the world over for all kinds of products. He started collecting cans from everywhere.

During the last 18 years, he has covered a wide range of subject matter in his work including landscapes, portraits, cars, horses, flowers, quilt patterns, maps and more.

“We are thrilled to be able to share Robert Love’s tremendous talent with the community,” said Executive Director Heather Dieffenbach. “This showcase is part of an initiative that celebrates the diversity of visual arts in Lexington and an open invitation to see firsthand the work of some of the most talented artists in the Bluegrass.”
