Lexington Honors Firefighters Killed In 9/11 Attacks

The Fraternal Order of Firefighters said they want the anniversary of 9/11 to be full of honor for those brave first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Firefighter Honor Guard placed a wreath was placed at a monument in Pheonix Park to remember the 343 firefighters killed on the same day in 2001.

They also want to remember the seven firefighters killed on duty while serving Fayette County.  Those seven are the following: Brenda Cowan, Chuck Williams, Louis Travis, Henry McDonald, J.C. Moynahan, Estill Rickerson Jr. and Robert Martin.

Keith Jackson, the Lexington Fire Chief, said every time they go in for a 24 hour shift they could make the same sacrifice.

"We come in knowing that at some point a call may come in, a call to sacrifice our lives to save another," said Jackson.

The flag was also placed at half staff.

There’s also the Firefighter Memorial Stair Climb.  That is at the Fifth Third Bank Building Saturday at 8 a.m.
