Lexington first responders take part in annual 9/11 memorial stair climb

LEXINGTON, Ky (WTVQ) – First responders took part in the memorial stair climb Saturday in Lexington.

Firefighters, police officers, and others climbed 110 flights of stairs today in Lexington’s Big Blue Building.

It’s a way to honor and remember the 413 first responders killed on September 11th, 2001.

John Barnott, a firefighter, explains why this annual climb is so important, “They gave the ultimate sacrifice you know they went in there and gave their life up so someone else can live unfortunately they weren’t able to save everyone they would’ve like too that’s the job we do.”

The registration fees from the climb benefit the Lexington Firefighter Monument.
