Lexington firefighter’s toy drive kicks off for 93rd year
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — This is the 93rd year for the Lexington Firefighter toy drive.
Each year, firefighters work hard to make sure thousands of kids have the toys they want for Christmas.
Lt. Chris MacFarlane says finding the right place is the first step for a successful toy program.
“A nice safe place for the families to be able to come in and shop for the toys and for us to be able to collect the toys and work cause this takes about two months to produce what you have as the toy program,” he said.
When they are not saving lives, these firefighters are dedicating their time to impact the lives of thousands of kids.
“The amazement in their eyes, the joy that it brings for them for be able to come in and be one less thing they have to worry about, that’s pretty important to us,” said MacFarlane.
If you or someone you know is in need of help this Christmas, this toy program is available for residents of Fayette County.
“We allow the families to come in person and sign up, that starts next week, Monday, November 6th. It’ll start here at 10 a.m. and runs to 3,” he said.
Sign-ups also continue throughout next week into evening times and also on the weekends.
MacFarlane said the community can help by donating toys.
“Over the next few weeks, we’ll just be trying to get as many toys as we can. Anyone can bring a new, unwrapped toy to a fire station and drop it off ,” he said.
In addition to dropping off toys, you can visit the program’s Amazon wishlist and order gifts that will be sent straight to the “North Pole”.
