Lexington firefighters shop with kids in need
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- People shopping in Hamburg Saturday may have seen several fire engines outside Meijer, but do not worry. There was no fire.
Instead, the firefighters were taking kids shopping for school clothes.
It was the annual shop with firefighters day. School teachers identify children ages 12 and under that come from families that need a little extra help.
When the child comes to Meijer, they grab a cookie, a cart, and a firefighter, and go shopping for their favorite clothes and shoes. The fire department donates $100 to each kid.
Firefighters say the community does so much for them, and this is just one way of giving back.
