Lexington firefighters need a building for Christmas toy drive

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LFD)- The 2015 Lexington Fire Department Toy Drive starts in a few weeks and firefighters are looking for a building to use. For the past 84 years the Lexington’s Fraternal Order of Firefighters has organized the event for deserving children in Fayette County. Last year, thanks to donations from the public, the program provided Christmas toys to over 2,000 children. There is one last obstacle to overcome for the 2015 program however, according to Fraternal Order of Firefighters’ President, Firefighter John Durr.

“We need a large building to store and distribute the toys from,” said Firefighter Durr. “We would like to have access to the building between October 25th and January 1st in order to get the job done.” The building needs to be about 15,000 square ft, have heat, bathrooms and plenty of parking. “The program is very rewarding,” added Durr “not just for the kids, but for everyone involved from the firefighters to all those in the community who pitch in to help out.”
