Lexington firefighter with cancer retires from department
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Days after celebrating the filing of a bill protecting the families of cancer stricken firefighters, a Lexington firefighter, fighting for his own life, retires from service.
The Lexington Fire Department announced Thursday, Matt Logsdon, a 10-year veteran of the department retired.
Logsdon was joined Tuesday by Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes as she filed and recorded Senate Bill 195. It allows the families of fallen firefighters who battled cancer to receive line-of-duty death benefits.
In January, Logsdon was diagnosed with stage four cancer which has spread throughout his body. He’s being treated in Chicago at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
