Lexington firefighter who battled cancer passes
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington Fire Department announced the passing of a firefighter who lost a hard-fought battle against cancer.
According to the fire department, Joe Vissing, who was diagnosed with stage four skin cancer a year ago, passed away at midnight Thursday morning.
The fire department issued a statement on the death, saying "The Lexington Fire Department regrets to announce the passing of Firefighter Joe Vissing. Joe passed at 12 a.m. this morning after a yearlong fight with cancer. His wife asked us to express the family’s appreciation for all the support they received from both the Lexington Fire Department, and all those from the community who stood by him. The family asks for privacy during this time. Donations can be sent to the Fraternal Order of Firefighters."
Funeral arrangements for Vissing are pending.
