Lexington Fire Damages Two Homes
A fire that damaged two homes Monday morning may have started in garbage cans sitting nearby, according to the Lexington Fire Department.
Firefighters said they were dispatched to the 4000 block of Sweetspire Drive around 7:30 and found one of the homes in flames.
According to investigators, most of the damage was confined to the garage and exterior of the home, though heat had melted siding on the house next door.
Crews said the fire was put out quickly and that additional time was spent checking for hot spots inside the home.
Officials advise everyone not to place hot embers or cigarette butts near anything that could be flammable.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
