18 people displaced after apartment building collapses in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington fire crews are responding to a scene at an apartment building in the 1800 block of Augusta Drive on Friday. Media partner LEX 18 captured a photo of what appears to be the side of the building collapsed.

LFD reported that crews were called to the scene on a report of a collapse and rescue operation at around 11 a.m. Upon arrival, crews saw that a third floor concrete patio had fell onto the second floor.

Units quickly rescued five occupants, using ladders to enter through the back of the apartments. Crews, along with Lexington Animal Control removed three dogs and two cats from the apartment.

Lexington fire confirmed to LEX 18 on scene that 18 people have been displaced across 12 units. No injuries were reported.

Officials continue to assess the situation as part of an active response.
