Lexington Fire and Police hold wreath laying ceremony for 9/11
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A crowd gathered in downtown Lexington, Saturday, to pay tribute to the first responders lost during 9/11.
Lexington’s Fire and Police departments held a special wreath laying ceremony in Phoenix Park to honor fallen heroes. Fire chief Jason Wells spoke about the effect this day has on first responders
“You don’t ever forget, I think it reinforces what we learn in the academy, which is this is a dangerous profession. There is an opportunity or potential that you don’t return home. And we’re here for a very important reason, we serve a very important function in the community and we truly are willing to risk it all in service of others” said Chief Wells.
Legendary fireman and 9/11 first responder Al Benjamin was a special guest speaker at the event.
