Lexington-Fayette County Health Department offering rabies vaccination clinic

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department (LFCHD) hopes an upcoming low-cost rabies vaccination clinic will help pet owners better protect their animals.

From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 at Douglass Park, LFCHD will offer rabies vaccines for $5. Typically, rabies vaccinations cost around $20.

All cats and ferrets must be in a carrier, and all dogs must be on leashes. Due to COVID-19, masks are recommended for every person who attends.

“A rabies shot gives protection to the pet as well as its owner and the other people of Lexington,” said Luke Mathis, LFCHD Environmental Health team leader. “We’re pleased to provide this useful public health service as we help Lexington be well.”

Owners can also purchase an animal license for $8 at the clinic if the animal has been spayed or neutered. A license costs $40 if the animal has not been altered or the owner has no proof of alteration.
