Lexington cuts ribbon for affordable housing town homes

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) -Today marked a significant milestone for Lexington as Mayor Linda Gorton, alongside council members and community leaders, unveiled five new town

homes in a bid to address the city’s ongoing affordable housing challenges.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony, officiated by Mayor Gorton and other council members in collaboration with the Lexington Housing Authority, took place at the corner of Pemberton and Sixth Street. The event symbolizes a collective effort to expand access to affordable housing options for residents in need.

Over the years, Lexington’s Affordable Housing Fund has played a pivotal role in addressing the city’s housing needs. Since 2014, the fund has invested a total of $47 million in the construction and preservation of over 3,400 units, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to ensuring that all members of the community have access to safe, affordable housing.

The opening of these five new town homes represents a tangible step forward in this ongoing endeavor.
