Lexington crews to work through the weekend to clear roads

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — City road crews and contractors will be working straight through the weekend to keep making progress after last weekend’s ice-packed winter storm, according to the mayor’s office.

City officials say this storm turned out to be less about snow and more about freezing rain that hardened everything into solid ice. Bitterly cold temperatures since then have only made it tougher, keeping ice in place even after repeated treatments.

There is some good news moving forward: starting next week, Lexington’s Waste Management crews are expected to return to a normal garbage and recycling pickup schedule as road conditions continue to improve.

City leaders are still asking drivers to take it slow, especially overnight and in shaded areas where ice can refreeze quickly.
