Lexington Councilmember David Sevigny announces he won’t seek re-election in 2026
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington-Fayette Urban County Councilmember Dave Sevigny says he will not seek re-election when his term ends in 2026.
In a post shared Friday on his official Facebook page, Sevigny reflected on his decision after what he described as a period of personal reflection — including a 306-kilometer hike along the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
“Stepping away is never easy, but it feels right,” Sevigny wrote. “On that walk, I learned to listen—to the rhythm of my own steps, to the quiet encouragement of my family, friends, and fellow pilgrims, to the subtle voice within that knows when it is time to move forward, time to lead, time to support, and time to rest.”
Sevigny, who represents Lexington’s 10th District, said he plans to continue serving constituents and working on citywide issues through the remainder of his term.
He added that public service has been a meaningful part of his life and that he looks forward to finding new ways to serve once his time on council concludes.
“Sometimes the most courageous step is not the next one forward,” Sevigny wrote, “but the pause that allows us to see where we have been, trust what lies ahead, and spend some time with the people we love.”
