Lexington City Officials to Get Proposed Budget from Mayor

Nine city council members have already backed Lexington Mayor Jim Gray’s proposed budget plans, which include $10 million for public safety, the homeless and affordable housing.

He will present his budget proposal before the council chambers and the urban city council during at the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government meeting at 5 Tuesday afternoon.

Gray announced previously that the city had a surplus of $13 million, and said $6.5 million should go toward public safety requests beginning July 1, which kicks off the new budget year.

$3.5 million of the budget would be set aside for affordable housing and meeting the needs of the homeless, according to the Mayor.
