Lexington city offices closed Monday as crews continue winter storm response

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — City offices for Lexington employees not involved in winter weather response will be closed Monday as crews continue working to keep roads safe following icy conditions across the area.

According to city officials, waste collection has also been canceled for Monday, with a makeup date to be announced soon.

Street crews are focusing on clearing major routes across the city as part of Lexington’s snow removal plan. Officials are urging residents not to park along streets and main roads so plows and salt trucks can move through neighborhoods more effectively.

City leaders also announced the Mayor’s City-Council speech originally scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed and is now planned for Thursday, Jan. 29, pending any additional weather concerns.

The Lexington Police Department says between midnight and 5 a.m. Monday, officers responded to one non-injury crash, six traffic hazards and 14 calls for motorist assistance. Drivers are being asked to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary, especially with bridges and overpasses remaining slick.

LexCall is operating extended hours Monday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. for non-emergency weather-related concerns.

The city’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect through Monday morning, offering expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. Anyone who sees someone who may need shelter is encouraged to call Lexington Police non-emergency at (859) 258-3600.
