Lexington Chamber Orchestra
The Lexington Chamber Orchestra is a relatively young organization. This year marks its fourth year of performances. We present high quality classical music that is financially accessible to all concert goers because of our “Name Your Own Ticket Price Model.” The ensemble is also dedicated to employing local musicians and fostering a fulfilling musical environment in Lexington.
On March 2nd (7:30pm at Tates Creek Presbyterian Church) and March 3rd (3:00pm at the Lyric Theatre), the Lexington Chamber Orchestra will present their “European Postcards” concert. This concert features masterworks by Felix Mendelssohn, Franz Josef Haydn, and Johann Baptist Vanhal.
The program explores the transition that occurred between the Classical and Romantic eras and features the vigorous energy and musical clarity of the former, as well as the expressiveness of the latter. Additionally, the Haydn and Mendelssohn symphonies represent the musical exchange of ideas across Europe that took place during this period. Both works were inspired by the composers’ travels abroad.
The orchestra will be joined by virtuoso bassist David Murray who has won top prizes from the International Society of Bassists and the Aspen Music Festival, and has made solo appearances across the globe. He is a professor at Butler University and the principal bassist of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and Sinfonia da Camera.
