LexArts seeking Kentucky artist for health department mural
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- LexArts is looking for a Kentucky artist to work on a new public work to replace a mural on the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.
The artist fee is $12,000 and the artist must use some of it to buy aluminum substrate, paint, uv protection and rental equipment for the mural’s installation.
The mural will be painted onto Alumacore Panels at the health department on 650 Newtown Pike.
The art must be sealed with a clear coat protectant determined by LexArts.
Interested artists can view the site during a visit Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 11 am.
The current mural has an anti-smoking theme. LexArts says the new theme can be open ended, but should align with the values of the health department, which you can find here.
Artists may submit up to three preliminary design proposals and must provide examples of past work.
LexArts will commission a small scale painting for $500 from three artists selected as finalists.
The paintings will be used to identify one finalist. The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will own the paintings and may auction them to help raise funds for the mural. Artists will retain the copyrights to the work.
