Lex Cath falls to Belfry in Class 3A title game

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) – Andrew Fletcher ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns Sunday as Belfry overwhelmed Lexington Catholic 43-0 in the Class 3A championship game at Western Kentucky University.

The Pirates ran for 396 yards and six touchdowns on their way to their fifth state title and third straight under coach Phillip Haywood.

Belfry outgained Lexington Catholic 396-117, with all of the Pirates’ yards coming on the ground.

Xondre Willis, Derek Wellman and Noah Corbett ran for 89, 77 and 63 yards, respectively, for Belfry. Wellman had two touchdowns, while Corbett and Willis tallied one each.

Wellman ran for a 5-yard score right before halftime and then converted a 2-point conversion to make the margin 36-0 and trigger a KHSAA-mandated running clock.

Andy Thompson and Legend Brumbaugh combined to throw for 71 yards on 23 passing attempts for Lexington Catholic.
