LEX airport travelers impacted by Delta delays
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The Department of Transportation has initiated an investigation into Delta Airlines following significant flight disruptions reported nationwide, as confirmed by aviation officials today.
More than 400 flights were canceled across the country, according to a flight tracker.
Since Saturday, Flight Aware recorded a total of 26 cancellations at Blue Grass Airport, with Delta Airlines accounting for 77% of those affected flights. Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, a key hub for Delta, experienced the highest incidence of delays linked to the disruptions. Many travelers at the LEX airport on Tuesday feeling the effects.
“My Flight was canceled this morning to Atlanta. I was going to South Africa, but my connector was canceled. So I had to come in. The Internet was basically a waste of time. There was so much going on, you just couldn’t get a hold of anybody to do it online,” said Delta customer, Brian Jones.
The current tally excludes incidents from Friday, when a global IT outage involving CrowdStrike impacted multiple airlines. Reports suggest that residual effects of the IT issues continue to unsettle travelers nationwide.
“There’ve been continuous changes throughout today and I’m just not real confident that I’m gonna make it today,” said traveler Shirley Francisco.
In response to the ongoing challenges, Blue Grass Airport shared a statement with ABC 36 News Now.
“Some airlines are still recovering from Friday’s software outage…” it wrote. “We recommend you reach out to your airline directly or visit the airline counter here at LEX,” wrote Bluegrass Airport officials.
As passengers navigate persistent delays and cancellations, lines were still noticeable Tuesday at Delta’s service counters at Bluegrass Airport, each traveler a testament to the disruptions in air travel over the recent days.
