Legislators taking action against hunger by assembling backpack meals for kids

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – According to the organization Feeding Kentucky, 1 in 5 kids in the state are food-insecure, which they say means the kids do not have consistent access to enough food for a healthy and active lifestyle.

the Feeding Kentucky network of food banks provided 72 million meals last year which included backpack meals for kids.

Feeding Kentucky says the backpack meals are easy to prepare food for kids who are at risk of hunger and need that extra help on days school meals are not provided.

Feeding Kentucky says they involve seven regional food banks that reach all 120 counties in Kentucky.

All together they feed around 50,000 people each week.

Feeding Kentucky also wants to remind you that Wednesday, January 15th is Hunger-Free Kentucky Day.

There will be a Rally to Solve Hunger at the State Capitol in the Rotunda.
