Legislative Action Day for affordable housing
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Earlier Tuesday, Kentucky’s affordable housing developers and advocates joined forces for a Legislative Action Day at the Capitol to encourage the General Assembly to “have a heart for housing.”
They hope that the assembly will make substantial investments in affordable housing development and preservation in the 2024 budget session.
“Our state is short 89,000 units of affordable housing for our least fortunate neighbors. So, we’re asking the legislature to do what it can and what it should to get those people into affordable and safe housing,” said advocacy associate Andrew Bates.
“I want landlords to be given a tax credit where they don’t have any excuse to not make the repairs because our livelihood is being affected. Our quality of life is being affected. It’s affecting our families. It’s affecting our children. It’s affecting our mental health. It’s affecting our physical health,” Kentucky resident Tanyqua Oliver.
The coalition which includes nonprofits and partners from all parts of the state will give updates on the recovery process.
