Lee’s Famous Recipe Restaurant destroyed by fire in London
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) -The London Fire Department says a fire destroyed Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken off Mardis Street in Laurel County Thursday night.
Fire crews say the fire started at around 9 p.m. Neighbors reported seeing black smoke from several miles away. Three engines were called to battle the large fire. While firefighters were working on putting out the fire, the roof collapsed, according to London Fire Chief Larry Van Hook.
“It wasn’t 3 or 4 minutes after we vacated the building that the roof fell in with the air conditioning unit, ” said Chief Van Hook.
According to dispatchers, no injuries were reported. Officials told ABC 36’s Fadia Patterson was that firefighters worked on the scene till 6 a.m. Friday. The Fire Chief says crews will be monitoring the site and putting out hot spots throughout Friday.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
