Lawsuit over dispatch fee going to Supreme Court

NEWPORT, Ky. (AP) — A challenge of a property tax fee to help fund 911 dispatch services in northern Kentucky is going to the Kentucky Supreme Court.

The Campbell County Fiscal Court approved the $45 fee last year. It replaced a $3 per month landline phone fee.

The Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Apartment Association filed suit a month later and questioned whether the county had the authority under the state constitution to charge the fee.

Campbell County Administrator Robert Horine says a circuit judge ruled in favor of the county in June, and the apartment association appealed.

The Kentucky Enquirer (http://cin.ci/10URuqp) reports the county sought to take the case directly to the Supreme Court, which has agreed to an "expedited review" after the plaintiffs agreed to skip the appeals court.
