Lawsuit claims Lexington attorney defrauded immigrants
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A lawsuit filed in federal court accuses a Lexington attorney of defrauding immigrants by charging them to block deportations while knowing they weren’t eligible to stay in the United States.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports (http://cjky.it/1MUdyFT) the suit was filed Aug. 17 against Wally Ahmad on behalf of two immigrants who claim they were defrauded byAhmad. The lawsuit also seeks class action status to represent what attorneys say are potentially hundreds of people who paid Ahmad $1,500 to $6,000 for his services.
Ahmad says suit is “completely without merit.” He says the same allegations were made in an anonymous complaint to the Kentucky Bar Association that was dismissed.
Ahmad also suggests the suit may have been inspired by competitive jealousy, a claim the attorneys who filed the suit deny.
