Lawson gets win number 600 with Kentucky Softball
Wildcats win twice by run rule during second day of action
CLEARWATER, Fl. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Kentucky’s head softball coach Rachel Lawson has won 600 games at the helm of the Wildcats after two run-rule victories on Saturday.
She is in her 18th season in Lexington and is the all-time winningest coach in program history.
The Wildcats beat Morgan State and Southern Miss on day two of the 2025 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Lead-Off Classic.
Lawson’s milestone came as UK beat Morgan State 12-0 scoring nine runs in the fifth inning.
Freshman pitcher Julie Kelley earned a complete game shutout in her first career start for the Cats.
Kentucky beat Southern Miss 13-3 in the second game marking the third time that Lawson’s team has won in five innings this season.
With a 4-0 record, UK has a chance to end opening weekend 5-0 for the first time since 2020 if they can beat #8 Duke on Sunday.
