Lawmaker from Winchester abruptly quits reelection race
WINCHESTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – Republican State Representative Donna Mayfield, of Winchester, withdrew from her reelection race at a candidate forum Wednesday night, according to the Winchester Sun.
Mayfield told voters at the forum that “politics has become too vicious,” according to the newspaper report.
She has represented Clark and Madison counties for the past eight years in the state legislature.
With Mayfield’s withdrawal, Les Yates is the only Republican on the 73rd District ballot. He will face the winner of the Democratic primary race between Pat Banks and Rory Houlihan in November.
