Laurel County suspect accused of shooting man, nearly shooting child, and killing dog during home invasion
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Laurel County man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly shooting a man, nearly shooting a child, and killing a dog during a home invasion.
According to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Joseph Collett has been charged with attempted murder, burglary, and animal cruelty. Deputies say the incident occurred on Monday at a home on Wagers Road.
Collett is accused of shooting and killing a dog on the front porch before kicking in the door and forcing his way into the home. Once inside, Collett allegedly shot the homeowner in the leg and fired multiple shots that narrowly missed a four-year-old child, according to the sheriff’s office.
Collett was later arrested in Knox County and brought back to Laurel County. According to the detention center, he is scheduled for an arraignment on Wednesday morning at 9 a.m.
