Laurel County Sheriff’s Office warns of scam calls from people posing as deputies demanding bond money

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam that deputies say is making the rounds again — with callers pretending to be law enforcement and demanding money.

According to the sheriff’s office, scammers are calling people and identifying themselves as deputies, telling victims they need to pay bond money or face legal consequences tied to an alleged case or warrant.

Authorities say those calls are fraudulent.

Deputies are reminding the community that the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office will never call someone demanding payment over the phone for bond money, legal issues, or outstanding warrants.

Officials urge anyone who receives one of these calls to hang up immediately and avoid sharing any personal or financial information.

The sheriff’s office says residents should report suspicious calls and remain cautious if someone claims to be a law enforcement officer asking for money.
