Laurel County man charged with murdering his cousin

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Laurel County man is in jail after investigators say he shot and killed his cousin during an argument early Sunday morning.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year old Jonathan Humfleet got into an argument with his cousin, 31-year old Clifford Humfleet, Junior in a home on Boardwalk Circle, about two miles north of London around 4:22 a.m.

Investigators say the argument became physical and that one shot was fired from a 9mm handgun, which hit Clifford Humfleet, Junior in the chest.  He was airlifted to UK Hospital in Lexington where he was pronounced dead.  Investigators say Jonathan Humfleet was charged with the shooting.  Alcohol is believed to be involved in the incident, according to sheriff’s deputies. 

They also say 18-year old River Humfleet was charged with facilitation to commit murder.  River Humfleet was taken to UK Hospital in Lexington due to an apparent pre-existing medical condition, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Jonathan Humfleet was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.  Investigators say the investigation will be presented to a Laurel County Grand Jury.
