Laurel County man charged for homemade explosives
LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Laurel County man is facing charges after state police say he was found burning homemade explosives in the middle of a road.
According to Kentucky State Police, 36-year-old William Jones was arrested Sunday and charged with wanton endangerment. A trooper discovered Jones allegedly burning a mixture of potassium nitrate and sugar — commonly used in fireworks — on State Road 490.
Jones reportedly told the trooper he had made the mixture to create fireworks. He also admitted to having additional explosive materials at his home, according to police.
After receiving consent to search the home, state police and ATF agents say they found more potentially hazardous materials inside. The investigation is ongoing.
