Laurel County man accused of pointing shotgun at deputy
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Laurel County was taken into custody on Wednesday after The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says he pointed a shotgun at a deputy and constable.
Sheriff John Root says one of his deputies and a constable went to a home off Rough Creek Road Wednesday night to let a man know his wife had been in a wreck.
Root says the man, identified as 35-year-old Coty Jones, opened the door, picked up a sawed-off shotgun and pumped a round inside it before pointing it at the officers.
Jones was ordered to drop the weapon, but the deputy says Jones closed the door instead.
The sheriff says Jones eventually opened the door again and surrendered to authorities.
The deputy says Jones placed the shotgun under a chair near a 7-year-old who was inside the home.
Jones is charged with multiple counts of wanton endangerment, menacing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and defacing a firearm.
