Laurel County drug trafficking suspect arrested at safety checkpoint

LONDON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — A Laurel County man is due back in court next week after being arrested on drug trafficking charges during a safety checkpoint on I-75.

According to court records, 44-year-old Darrin Perkins is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. next Tuesday.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office says Perkins was arrested Saturday during a checkpoint stop on an I-75 exit ramp. Deputies say they allegedly found a gym bag inside his vehicle containing suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and plastic baggies.

Perkins remains in custody as the investigation continues.
