Laurel Co. woman arrested after allegedly assaulting EMS worker, endangering child

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Corbin woman was arrested Wednesday evening after reportedly assaulting an EMS worker and endangering a child while under the influence of drugs, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy responded to a call around 6:10 p.m. off Beatty Avenue after receiving reports that a woman holding a small child was seen in a ditch.When he got there, the deputy says he found Corbin City Police already at the scene.

Investigators say the woman, identified as 28-year-old Olivia Thomas of Corbin, appeared disoriented and admitted to possibly using drugs, including meth. Social Services was called because of the child.

Thomas was taken by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Baptist Health Corbin for medical evaluation. During transport, deputies say she assaulted an ambulance crew member, causing visible redness to the right side of his face.

When deputies attempted to question Thomas at the hospital, investigators say she became combative and uncooperative.

Thomas was charged with third-degree assault of an EMS worker, endangering the welfare of a minor, and public intoxication (controlled substances). She’s being held at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
