Laurel Co. Sheriff: Suspected shoplifter choosy about Walmart

CORBIN, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man and woman were arrested Monday night after deputies say they shoplifted items at the Corbin Walmart.

Deputies say they were called to the Walmart just before 11:00 p.m., where the store’s loss prevention team had detained 26-year-old Whitney Mills of Fourmile, and 26-year-old James Merida of Flat Lick.  According to investigators, the two had been concealing items on their person and in a bag that Mills had.  Deputies say they tried leaving the store without paying for the items, valued at about $245 dollars.

Deputies say Mills told them that she had come from Knox County to the Corbin Walmart because the store in Barbourville didn’t have anything worth stealing.

The two were charged with theft by unlawful taking and taken to the Laurel Co. Detention Center.
