Laurel and Pulaski County curfews in effect after tornado
SOMERSET, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — In the wake of Friday’s devastating tornado, officials in Pulaski and Laurel counties have enacted curfews to help ensure public safety as cleanup and recovery efforts continue.
In Pulaski County, Judge Executive Marshall Todd has declared a nightly curfew for the Parkers Mill Road area and nearby side roads. The curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. and will continue until further notice.
In Laurel County, Judge Executive David Westerfield has also enacted a nightly curfew for the tornado damage zone. That curfew begins Tuesday, May 21, and will remain in place through Tuesday, May 28, running nightly from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Laurel County Sheriff John Root posted on Facebook warning that violating the curfew could result in misdemeanor charges, with penalties of up to a $1,000 fine or six months in jail.
The curfews come as additional severe weather is forecast for Tuesday, raising further safety concerns across the region.
