KSP: 70-year-old Somerset man dies in fatal highway collision after striking semi-truck

Kentucky State Police (KSP) has released new details about a fatal collision that left Lake Cumberland Road, or Highway 461, in Rockcastle County closed for an extended period of time on Saturday.
According to KSP Trooper Scottie Pennington, KSP Post 11 was contacted on Saturday around 1 p.m. by Rockcastle County 911 regarding a collision on Kentucky Highway 461 near White Rock Road.
KSP troopers determined through an investigation that 70-year-old Hollis Smith of Somerset was traveling northbound on the highway in a 2011 Mercury Grand Marquis when he crossed the center line, entering the southbound lane, striking a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck. A 32-year-old man from Florida was operating the semi-truck.
As a result of the collision, Smith died and was pronounced dead on-scene by the Rockcastle County Coroner. His autopsy is pending at this time. According to Pennington, neither drugs nor alcohol were believed to be involved in the collision.
Assisting KSP on-scene was the Mount Vernon Fire Department, Rockcastle County EMS, and the Rockcastle County Coroner’s Office. The fatal collision remains under investigation.

The portion of Lake Cumberland Road, or Highway 461, that was shut down as reopened on Saturday evening, according to Kentucky State Police.
Troopers say, the road was confirmed closed around 4 p.m. due to a serious accident between a car and a semi-truck that ended in a fatality on Saturday.

Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London has confirmed that a serious accident between a car and a semi-truck on Lake Cumberland Road has ended in a fatality.
A portion of Lake Cumberland Road, or Highway 461, is still closed at this time. Residents are asked to seek alternative routes for the time being until emergency personnel clears the roadways.

The Mount Vernon Fire Department has announced that a portion of Lake Cumberland Road is closed until further notice due to a serious vehicle accident between a car and a semi truck.
According to the fire department, the accident occurred at the intersection of Doc Adams Road and Lake Cumberland Road.
The road closure will be from White Rock Road to Dysart Way (Highway 461 intersection) on Lake Cumberland Road.
Residents are asked to take alternative routes as emergency personnel clears the scene. As of now, the Mount Vernon Fire Department has not announced when the roads will be clear.
