Lafayette Football Gives Appreciation To Teachers

The Lafayette High School Football Team has been preparing to take on Campbell County in the first round of the state playoffs, but Friday morning, the players took a moment to thank their teachers.

For sophomore quarterback Walker Wood, there was only one teacher he wanted wearing his number.  Her name is Karina Kwiatkowski, or Miss K for short.

"She makes you want to learn it more because she’s so happy about teaching it. She loves what she does so she makes it easier to learn," said Walker, about the first-year biology teacher.

Kwiatkowski described biology as magic.  She said she loves to try different ways of teaching because all students learn differently.

"I’ll keep going through different metaphors. Then they’ll tell me, that’s the one. Use that one. I finally get it," said Kwiatkowski. "It’s so exciting to find the one thing that’s going to finally reach a student."

That passion has been noted by the Generals’ football coach Eric Shaw, who found a way for the football team to recognize the Lafayette teaching staff’s hard work.

"Each player is going to give a teacher their jersey to wear at school and at the game," said Shaw.

During first period on Friday, more than 50 varsity football players walked into classrooms and handed off their jerseys.
