Ky. Senator to introduce bill for limited exceptions to trigger law
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Kentucky Sen. David Yates (D-Louisville) will introduce a bill Tuesday to create limited exceptions to the state’s trigger law.
The bill would create those exceptions for survivors of rape, incest, women with nonviable pregnancies and the health of pregnant women.
“Currently, under Kentucky law, survivors of rape and incest, women with nonviable pregnancies, and women who may experience health complications due to pregnancy have no legal options in the state,” said Yates.
The bill is called Hadley’s Law.
Hadley Duvall last year appeared in a campaign ad for Gov. Andy Beshear ahead of the 2023 General Election. Duvall was raped by her stepfather at 12 years old after years of sexual abuse.
“Anyone who believes there should be no exceptions for rape and incest could never understand what it’s like to stand in my shoes,” Duvall, of Owensboro, said in the ad.
Yates will file the bill alongside Hadley at 10:30 a.m. in the Capitol Rotunda.
ABC 36 will be there for the filing and have more on this later Tuesday evening.
