KY ranks 4th worst state in school violence
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — A national study done by the Educator’s School Safety Network ranks Kentucky as the 4th worst state with the most violent threats and incidents.
The study says each state received a composite score. The composite score was determined by a state’s ranking in the four sub-categories – # of threats, # of incidents, threats per million, and incidents per million.
This study is for the 2017-2018 school year.
In the previous school year, Kentucky was ranked at 39th.
The principal at George Rogers Clark High School, David Bolen, says this jump is alarming.
The school has implemented a new advisory program to help students become more interactive with their advisers as well as their peers.
Program coordinator and teacher, Maggie Doyle, says feedback has been really great from both advisers and students.
Doyle says she wants students to have a great experience at the school and to feel safe in its environment.
