KY power crew to Florida ahead of Hurricane Michael
ASHLAND, Ky. (WTVQ) – Crews from Kentucky are making their way to Florida to help assist with any power outages brought on by Hurricane Michael.
The storm is expected to make landfall on Wednesday, with heavy rains and expected wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour.
Around 100 company line mechanics and contract crews, including workers with Davis H. Elliott and 5 Star Electric, will assist Gulf Power in northwest Florida.
Workers with Kentucky Power will assist Duke Energy Florida, based in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Kentucky Power says this is part of a decades-old mutual assistance program, with utility companies committing to help restore power when assistance is required during major outages.
