KY Lottery to give away Powerball tickets

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – As tomorrow night’s Powerball jackpot currently stands at a world record-shattering $1.5 billion (with a cash option of $930 million), the Kentucky Lottery is thanking players by giving away 1500 free Powerball tickets in a whirlwind four city tour.

“The reason we’re at this astonishing point in our history is because of our players,” said Kentucky Lottery President and CEO Arch Gleason. “To say thanks for their support, we’re going to give 1500 players a free $2 Powerball ticket.”

The tickets will be split evenly among four locations where events will be held Wednesday. They are:

  • LOUISVILLE: 10 AM Eastern, Kroger at 9440 Brownsboro Rd
  • NICHOLASVILLE: 2 PM Eastern, Kroger at 200 E. Brannon Road
  • COVINGTON: 2 PM Eastern, Location TBD
  • BOWLING GREEN: 2 PM Central, Kroger at 2945 Scottsville Rd

“We invite players out to be one of the first in line to get a the free ticket, have their picture made with the actual Powerball check that will be awarded if someone in Kentucky wins, meet the Powerball mascot, and just enjoy this great moment in our history,” said Gleason. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Total Powerball sales in KY from 1/3 thru 1/9 were $15,457,071. The weekly sales quota for the game is slightly more than $1.3 million. Total sales just for the Saturday drawing in KY were $10,852,060, and at one point around 100 tickets every second were being sold.
