KY legislator speaks out after her photos were uploaded to porn site

GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — On Sunday, Representative Samara Heavrin received a message that some of her Facebook photos had been uploaded to a pornography website.

“The first picture I saw was a photo of me and my mom at a Broadway show,” she said.

In the picture, Heavrin is wearing a turtleneck, but she says it doesn’t matter what people wear in their photos, anyone could become a victim.

“The perpetrator is actually somebody I had met at one of our local churches,” Heavrin said.

She’s referring to 29-year-old Zackery Robinson who was arrested Tuesday morning. Police say he’s the suspect accused of uploading pictures of women and underage girls to a pornography website without their consent.

“I did not give consent for my Facebook photos to be put on a porn website,” Heavrin said.

Senator Amanda Mays-Bledsoe says that this upcoming legislative session, they hope to work on Senate Bill 7 which says a person has the right to an image of their unclothed body.

“When someone uses your body without your permission for commercial use or advertising, that you have the ability to take that back, take it down and seek damages,” Mays-Bledsoe said.

Now, both Heavrin and Mays-Bledsoe say they’re working to expand the language of the law to cover any new technology that can be used against others online.

“Not just with images, but also deepfakes and AI,” Mays-Bledsoe said.
